After making an encouraging start to his managerial career, Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark is hoping to guide the Terriers to promotion to the Championship this season.

With the backing of greetings card tycoon Dean Hoyle, Town have once again been able to flex their muscle in the transfer market, with summer signings Jordan Rhodes, Theo Robinson, Robbie Simpson, Anthony Kay, Peter Clarke and Lee Peltier all making promising starts to their Town careers. Loan recruit from Manchester United Danny Drinkwater has also added a touch of class to Town’s midfield.

The opening day trip to Southend saw Town 2-0 down with 20 minutes to go, so the 2-2 draw was definitely a case of 1 point gained rather than 2 points dropped. Since then, home wins against Stockport (3-1), Southampton (3-1), and most notably the 7-1 demolition of Brighton have added to the pre-season optimism amongst Terriers fans.

The new recruits of Jordan Rhodes and Theo Robinson have been finding the net regularly, and Geordie lad Lee Novak has made a seamless transition into league football, after playing for Newcastle Blue Star in the Unibond Premier League this time last season. A trip to St James’ Park to play Newcastle in the Carling Cup gave Lee Clark, his assistant Terry McDermott a chance to put one over on their former employers. Despite a brave showing, Town went down 4-3 in a pulsating contest.

The 7-1 victory over Brighton not only gave Town their biggest league win for 10 years, it was also the first Town game watched from the stands by Andy Cole, recruited by Clark to help Town’s strikers. After that score-line the obvious question has to be – is he really needed?!?

With much of the sporting focus in Huddersfield focused on The Giants trip to Wembley this weekend, an early kick-off against Yeovil gives Town chance to make up for last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Bristol Rovers. Lee Clark expressed his disappointment at the manner in which Town lost 1-0 to Yeovil the last time the sides met, so will be hoping there won’t be any complacency from Town this time. Town fans will be trusting Clark to eradicate not only Town’s inconsistency, but also their ability to beat the more fancied teams in the division then follow it up with a defeat to one of the teams battling against relegation.

These are exciting times to be a Town fan, with fresh investment in the squad, over 10,000 season tickets sold, and a team capable of entertaining the crowds…the future’s bright, the future’s Blue and White
