Ben Hall. Huddersfield Student Editor 09/10
This year is truly the rebirth of the Huddersfield Student in all senses of the word.
Today sees the launch of two new things and I have no idea how, or if, either will be effective and work as planned.
First and foremost, the newspaper should be arriving within the next few hours and will be distributed across campus and across various venues in the town. And it’s a new size- much smaller.
I have had my reservations on the size- we’re going even smaller than a tabloid- but I’m sure, and constantly hopeful, that we’ve made it look good. It’ll be a lot more pick-up-able.
Something else to point out is that the paper is now 100% recycled- we’re just always thinking green.
The second aspect of our rebirth, the one you’re reading this very blog on, has launched today too. Unfortunately, we couldn’t prize the huddersfieldstudent.com domain out of the Union’s fingers (not that we even tried) but we now have our very own web presence. In talking to people during the campaigning season it was clear that a lot of them think a website is a good idea. Hopefully it’ll work as envisioned.
My plan for the Huddersfield Student this year, and feel free to have your say on it in the comments below, is to build more of a community around our under-appreciated paper and try and make it into something more than “ink smeared on dead trees”.
We’re in a unique position, a new starting point in the Student’s eighth year of life. This will be its year.
