A collection of UHSU by-election candidates post-training last Thursday

A list of candidates for the 2009/10 University of Huddersfield Students’ Union (UHSU) by-elections have been announced.

The by-elections will see a total of 14 candidates running, 12 of whom will be uncontested.

Andy ‘Frodo’ Blunt is running for Union Chair and, if nominations are not re-opened by the vote, will oversee the Union Council, which comprises of two councillors, elected in March, and four candidates vying for election.

Running for Union Councillor positions are Saiqa Ahmed, Tahira Alia, Binesh Hafiz and John Pawsey.

Ifran Raja is running for Mature & Postgraduate Officer, whilst Adam Ingram runs for Enivornment & Ethics Officer.

Standing for Disabilities Officer, the only position to be contested, are Michael Mattinson and Ben Medley.

Voting takes place online from 1pm on 2 November and continues until 5pm on 5 November. Details of how to vote were sent to theuniversity email inboxes of all eligible to vote on Friday.

Students at Queensgate, Barnsley and Oldham campuses are able to vote for all of the above candidates and positions.

At University Campus Barnsley (UCB), Jp Austin is standing to be elected as UCB Chair, while Vijay Bhutada is standing to be a UCB Ordinary member.

Aaron Biszby, Motozzul Choudhury Imran and Nazmin Sultana are running to become University Campus Oldham (UCO) Ordinary members.

Students at UCB and UCO can only vote for members of that campus and the Queensgate campus positions.
